  • The second generation Tensor chipset is formally known as Google Tensor G2.
  • The first device to be launched with this SoC will be the Google Pixel 7 series.
  • We will get our first taste of Tensor G2 on October 6th, 2022.

It was inevitable that Google would launch a second version of Tensor, its first custom system on a chip (SoC). The company also confirmed that it was due to arrive in May this year when it revealed the Pixel 7 series.

However, Google never actually used a formal name for the chipset. That is, till today. as seen for the first time 9to5googlerecently updated pixel 7 landing page The name of the new SoC is revealed on the Google Store: Google Tensor G2.

Google Tensor G2 will debut inside the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Google also formally announced the launch date of those two phones, which is October 6, 2022. At 10:00 AM ET that day, Google will reveal the devices in full at an in-person event in Brooklyn, NY.

As far as the Google Tensor G2’s hard specs go, we’re a bit in the dark about it at the moment. Rumors suggest that Google will stick with the original Tensor’s 2+2+4 CPU layout, which includes two high-powered cores, two medium cores, and four lightweight cores. If that happens, Google will need to optimize in other areas to make the CPU faster than its predecessor.

Everything will be known on October 6th! In the meantime, at least we know what to call it now.
